About the Area
South Africa's vineyards are mostly situated in the Western Cape near the coast. This is the southernmost region of the African continent, and has a Mediterranean-type climate and diverse soils perfectly suited to quality grape production.
Vintage Conditions
January in the Western Cape heralds the beginning of summer and, as the temperatures increase, early ripening grape varieties are ready for picking. The bulk of the harvest takes place in February and March and the sugar/acid ratio of the grapes is checked daily so that each variety is harvested at optimum ripeness.
Harvest DateFebruary
Winemaking
Specially selected Ruby Cabernet, Pinotage and Cinsaut grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness. They were crushed and fermented separately on the skins until dry. After malolactic fermentation the wine was blended and bottled.
